My days studying as a university student at (then) the University of Wales, Aberystwyth were some of the best of my life. I made lifelong friendships, dedicated time to a subject of scholarship, achieved excellence in sport, and became part of a vibrant local community. Unfortunately, I feel that this experience is faces severe threats that are currently damaging to the sector and its stakeholders. I have published pieces on (un)accountability, managerialism, marketisation, capitalist realism, and am currently working on pieces concerning precarious labour, erosion of democratic structures, and the use of consultants within HE.
I believe that as a committee member, I can offer the CDBU significant administrative experience and skills I bring from a career in academia as a chartered management accountant. I currently chair one special interest group (SIG) committee for the European Academy of Management, and sit on the Public Services and Charities SIG for the British Accounting and Finance Association. I would bring passion to the role as a committee member, and an unwavering determination to preserve the position and roles of universities in society. I hope you will consider me for election.
